Club Structure & Constitution

Structure

Founded originally in 1932 (with a Ladies’ Section one year later) Syston Bowling Club is formally incorporated at Companies House as a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee (Registration Number: 6495115). This means that it has no shareholders and issues no dividends. Members of the Board of Directors and the Management Committee may not be paid for their service but may reclaim any expenses properly incurred while on Club business.

In the event that the Club should be wound up, any residual assets would have to be passed on to another Club or Company having similar aims and objectives or to a Charity.

The Club is also formally registered with Inland Revenue as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) (Reg No: CASC05278) which confers upon us a number of tax advantages and, in return, commits us to a policy of openness to all within the community irrespective of sex, age, ethnicity, creed, and ability.

Copies of the Memorandum and Articles of Association, Club Rules and By-laws, and membership criteria are posted on noticeboards, are available, on request, from the Secretary, or can be downloaded by using the links provided below.

Governance

The Club is managed by a Board of Directors and a Management Committee both elected annually at the AGM at which every Member is entitled to a single vote. Responsible to the Board, the Management Committee’s role is to devise and deliver a comprehensive programme of fixtures and competitions, including associated catering arrangements, and to supervise the conduct of Members.

Membership

The Club offers Full, Associate and Social grades of membership, according to criteria set by the Board. Individual Members who are recognised for their exceptional work for the Club may be offered Honorary Life Membership.

Unification

With effect from 1st January 2018 the Ladies’ and Men’s Sections of the Club were unified. All matches and competitions, except where required otherwise by County or League rules, are now played by mixed teams.
